As a kids, we loved the horror stories of our grandmothers, or abuelas, if speaking in spanish.
Those stories kept us awake quite a whole night, keeping us terrifyed.
1. El silbón "The whistler"
Is a terrifying creature in Venezolan folklore. According to the legend, if black headed young man who murdered his father in cold blood and devoured his organs. El silbón is now doomed to wander the earth as a lost soul, lagging a bag filled with fatehr's bones.
The whistler gets his name from the eeerie, bone-chilling whistling sound he emits. Some people barely notice the seemingly lng-distant music, and when they do, it's usually too late.
2. La ciguapa
Is a mythological creature in Dominican legend. They are described as wild, strange women, living in a high mountains who possess incredible magical powers.
These beautiful women boasts a long mane of shiny hair that wraps their naked bodies. Spookily, the feet of La ciguapa face backwards, making it difficult to determine the direction she walks.
The legent tells, that if you look at her eyes, you will be completly bewitched and be under her power.
3. El sombrerón
The Guatemalan tale tells the story of spooky figure who goes out walking after dusk. No one is quite sure if it's a ghost, a demon, a man, or a goblin.
All agree that he's very small, dressed in all-black, and done a big shiny belt, a pair of heavy boots and a large hat that hides his face.
He seduce young women, wooing them with sweet voice and beautiful melodies. Once they become bewitched, he stalks them and braids their hair. Under his spell, they become unable to eat or sleep, until, eventually, they meet their death.
4. La casa Matusita
This house is a cesspool of hauntings and ghosts activity. No one can agree on the house's background: some say that a man slaughtered his family and then ommitted suicide. Other tales claim that a formal dinner party turned into a massacre after guests were gives hallucinogens.
Some insist it was previously inhabitated by a witch who sold her services to the highest bidder, causing misfortunes across the city. Regardless of what happened, the dead are clearly unhappy about their fate.
Don't climb the stairs to the second floor. nyone who enters is said to completly lose their sanity..
